1980 PORSCHE 930 "RUF BTR REPLICA"

The 1980 Porsche 930 Turbo you see here is a meticulous blend of authentic 1980s Porsche engineering and an homage to the iconic RUF BTR, designed to match its legendary styling and performance.

 

Painstakingly restored by RS Restomods, this 930 Turbo in Continental Orange finish (a nod to the bold aesthetics of that era) is paired with a suite of high-performance modifications engineered to elevate it to RUF BTR specifications.

At the heart of this vehicle lies a modified 3.3l flat-six engine featuring a twin-turbo configuration. This setup, bolstered by a larger intercooler, allows the car to deliver a dyno-tested output of 322 kW (437 hp) and 554 Nm of torque, ensuring power delivery that rivals the RUF BTR’s benchmark. The engine's build and tuning reflect a commitment to both period-correct performance and modern reliability, while a clutch rated for 750 Nm of torque ensures the drivetrain can handle the engine’s full potential.

Externally, the car is equipped with original RUF Speedline wheels, which capture the distinctive RUF aesthetic while enhancing handling. These lightweight, performance-focused wheels contribute to the car’s stable, grounded stance. In line with the BTR theme, the body and trim have been subtly reworked, ensuring a timeless look that maintains the essence of the original while integrating RUF’s signature design elements. Inside, the car remains true to its vintage Porsche roots.

This Porsche 930 Turbo not only visually embodies the RUF BTR but also reaches performance levels characteristic of RUF's pioneering work in turbocharged performance, offering a driving experience that’s as visceral as it is authentic.

Here’s a summary of the restoration work carried out:

  • Clutch rebuild and new clutch cable

  • New brakes (rotors, master cylinder, pads)

  • CV joints and front wheel bearings serviced

  • Engine, gearbox, and oil system serviced

  • New fuel pumps, hoses, and clamps

  • Full body respray with ceramic coating

  • Interior upgrades: carpet, door cards, rubbers

Here is a summary of the modifications:

  • Interior: Sport seats with Porsche emblem, boost mode switch, removed aircon and radio, Momo gear lever and pedals.

  • Engine: Twin KKK K26 turbos, dual wastegates, K&N filters, oil sump mods, larger intercooler, racing exhaust without mufflers, Motec management system, copper button clutch.

  • Exterior: Original RUF Speedline wheels with new tyres and caps, SE front bumper, rear wheel intakes, Continental Orange paint.
