1973 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA RSR – Outlaw

Welcome to the sale of "The Green Mamba," a right-hand drive 1973 Carrera RSR in vibrant Viper Green. This extraordinary vehicle weighs in at 1,000kg and delivers an impressive 290 HP, boasting a remarkable power-to-weight ratio for a naturally aspirated 50-year-old car

"The Green Mamba" recently emerged from retirement, having been part of a rare car collection housed in a collector's man cave since 2005. In 2022, it underwent a mini restoration, which included a complete respray and the application of a ceramic protective coating. Additionally, new decals were applied, the brakes were completely rebuilt, the Weber carbs were reconditioned, and a thorough service was performed. This year, we decided to transform it from a 2.7 RS into an RSR, incorporating steel wheel fender extensions and restoring the interior to a pristine condition.

This 1973 Porsche 911 RSR has a rich history and a unique story behind its creation. Built in 1994 by the highly respected racing driver Peter Goch, it was meticulously constructed to achieve his vision of a naturally aspirated 290 HP (almost the same power as the original 2.8 RSR) car weighing in at 1,000kg. He achieved this by utilizing a 1979 3.0 SC engine, increasing its capacity to 3.2l, and fitting a 930 crank, RSR cams, and a performance exhaust. Fuel delivery is handled by 46mm Weber carbs, and ignition is taken care of by twin spark technology. This winning formula created a high-revving flat-six engine that emits an amazing sound when reaching the higher RPM range. The power plant is mated to a 5-speed 915 gearbox.

Also, Peter Goch campaigned and raced this extraordinary car successfully over a couple of years, earning this 911 the nickname "Green Mamba" due to his fierce competitiveness on the track. The Green Mamba became well-known in racing circles for its impressive performance and striking Viper Green exterior.

The donor car for this project was a rare right-hand drive 1972 911T. It was originally sprayed in the iconic Viper Green No255 color used in 1973. This all-metal car had rear RSR metal fenders welded in, while the ducktail and bumpers were crafted from lightweight fiberglass. Several components were removed, and the weight of just over 1,000kg was achieved.

To ensure exceptional road grip, this lightweight 911 is equipped with 16" Fuchs wheels and H&R coil-over racing suspension, supplemented by oversized anti-sway bars. Bringing the car to a swift halt is made possible by the Porsche upgraded brakes, which were fully rebuilt with new pads. The brake system was upgraded with dual brake master cylinders, allowing for adjustable brake bias from the dashboard.

To further reduce weight, Carbon fiber lightweight Corbeau GT Seats were installed, accompanied by red 5-point harnesses for enhanced safety. The steering of this special 911 is controlled by a Momo MOD.07 steering wheel, expertly wrapped in leather.

In 1998, the car caught the attention of the then South African Porsche Club's chairman, who acquired it from Peter Gough. He entered the Porsche in numerous competitions, including gymkhana events, time trial events, show car competitions, races, and even drag races. Throughout his ownership, he amassed over 51 trophies, which are meticulously documented and available on a dedicated website linked below. He ultimately sold the car in 2005, where it remained as part of a collection until now.
